Gaming and decentralized finance marketing, community, and infrastructure developer Ancient8 announced its collaboration with the upcoming triple-A extraction-based and skill-based first-person shooter game <a href="https://tingbits.com/game/shrapnel/">Shrapnel</a> on December 5. 

The partnership will help Shrapnel gain a significant number of players through the planned development of play-to-own and create-to-own design mechanisms.

Shrapnel, a product of Neon, a gaming studio composed of BAFTA and Emmy award-winning veteran developers, will be the Web3 space's first moddable competitive and multiplayer FPS. Through emerging blockchain technologies, players and creators can modify the game, trade and own player-generated content on the blockchain, providing players with more realistic displays and real-world value.

Shrapnel is helmed by Mark Long, formerly of Microsoft and HBO. Ali Kabbani, who goes by the name "Myth" and has more than 21 million social media followers, is an advisor.

Ancient8 recently shared on its <a href="https://blog.ancient8.gg/ancient8-partners-with-shrapnel/">blog</a> that Shrapnel offers a diverse range of experiences that target various player types, such as players, creators, and curators. The game allows players to use on-chain guns and gear to customize their play experience and create, mint, and use vanity items and cosmetics in-game using Shrapnel's UGC tools.

Shrapnel is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, the world's most open and advanced real-time 3D creation tool. It is prepared to run on an Avalanche blockchain subnet customized to provide users with zero latency, in-game asset trading, and compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

In November, the developers of Shrapnel unveiled their first cinematic trailer showcasing the game's competitive extraction gameplay. According to Ancient8's blog, the game mechanics were inspired by other top FPS games like Escape from Tarkov and "The Dark Zone" mode of Tom Clancy's The Division.

Neon is currently working on improving its communication channels and building a community of elite members. The company will then move on to the campaign, surplus, building, and deployment phases.
