Zynga, the studio behind Farmville and Words with Friends, plans to grow its blockchain team to around 100 employees by the end of this year. This expansion includes hiring for senior positions, acquisitions, and partnerships.

Matt Wolf, Zynga's VP of Blockchain Gaming, said that the current plan is to build separate game ideas instead of building on top of existing IPs. This is to avoid confusing players not familiar with blockchain gaming.

With the current pushback against NFTs coming from traditional game developers and players, Zynga teams will have the choice to opt-out of NFT projects.

Although no NFT game has been announced yet, Wolf hopes to release a “ground-up, dedicated product” this year.
